The Gift of Paying Attention 👀
So much of life passes us by simply because we aren’t paying attention. Our minds are busy with worries, to-do lists, and distractions. But when we choose to be fully present, we discover that God’s blessings are often hidden in plain sight.
“Taste and see that the Lord is good; blessed is the one who takes refuge in him.”
— Psalm 34:8
Attention as a Spiritual Practice
Paying attention isn’t just about focus—it’s about noticing God’s fingerprints in the details of life. The color of a sunset, the kindness of a stranger, the quiet nudge to pray—all become moments of encounter when we are awake to them.
Jesus modeled this beautifully. He noticed the people others overlooked: the woman at the well, the blind man at the roadside, the children brought near to Him. His attention was a form of love.
How to Practice Attention
-
Slow Down: Don’t rush from one thing to the next. Pause. Notice.
-
Look Closely: What details around you might hold beauty you’ve missed before?
-
Listen Deeply: Not just to words, but to tone, silence, and heart.
-
Ask God: “What are You showing me right here, right now?”
